Help me give my students LEGOS to make reading and math more engaging!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students are fun and energetic, and love authentic and hands-on experiences. This is the type of atmosphere that I strive to provide for my students every day. We love to dance and move and be hands-on with learning. My goal is that I will be able to provide each of my students with a meaningful and memorable experience in third grade. In order to do that, I need a classroom that has the materials my students need to learn.
My students are in need of LEGOs to use in engaging math and reading lessons. When you think of LEGOs, you don’t always think of education. Some may think the two do not go hand in hand at all, but that couldn’t be any further from the truth!
LEGOs can be used in so many ways to increase engagement and help students master difficult reading a math concepts.
When reading you can have the students show a deeper level of understanding of story elements by having them build and create them. You can teach kids how the words in books help us to visualize and create a picture in our heads. The students can then make that more concrete by building that mental picture. LEGOs can also aid in writing. I plan to have my students build their characters and setting for a visual and then use that to practice adding details and creating a story when they write. LEGOs are also going to help me create more meaningful math lessons as well. LEGOs can be a great visual for adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, and even fractions!
I can’t wait for the opportunity to incorporate LEGOs into my lessons! I know that with these materials I will be able to engage and reach every learner in my classroom. I would be forever grateful for any help that you can give me in making this classroom dream come true.
