Help me give my students access online and with individual student newspapers. These sources parallel deeply with the Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards while providing a rigorous curriculum.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I was recently hired as a founding teacher at a charter school in the Mississippi Delta. We will not meet our founding scholars in person until well...we don't really know when. We are planning with the purpose and expectation that we will be starting on-site soon (fingers crossed). We started virtually this week (08.07.2020) and our scholars are ready to dig into learning. They are "excited", "ready", and "proud" to be a part of this new school. As social studies in MS is drastically different than around the U.S. our standards focus on Civics and the World - and what a time to study just that. As we move forward without curriculum we (teachers and students) are seeking authentic and relevant materials to propel us in excellence. empowerment. and enjoyment.
My students welcome challenges, they are competitive, they stand ready to learn.
My Project
Mississippi does not have a written curriculum for social studies, however with providing Studies Weekly access students have a rigorous mailed home newspaper as well as online access to aid in vocabulary, civics concepts, geography construction, and more.
Students will dive into a weekly topic that parallels with the units our school is working on creating.
Please help us meet our goal.
This subscription will provide scholars with take-home newspapers, as well as, access to vocabulary, primary resource guided reading, and supplemental civics focused learning opportunities throughout the year. This will be able to be used whether we stay distance learning, or if we come back to campus.
