My Students

Our county is a special place to be a band teacher! We are a very rural, low-income area and school, but the people and students compose a tight-knit community.

Our students practice so hard in class and at home so that they can perform and make a difference in our school, for their families, and in our community.

They really care about the school and all of the students in our "band family".

It is amazing to see how being a part of such a wonderful school can have such an impact on the students' lives.

My Project

Our school's band and chorus are traveling to Williamsburg, Va to compete in a music festival associated with Busch Gardens. All of our students work very hard over the course of two months to prepare for the festival.

We would love to take every student in the band and chorus, but there are families who just cannot afford the cost.

This is a special trip that is planned a year in advance so that we can create a payment plan for families. The kids get to experience so many things like staying in a hotel and going zip-lining. It amazes me every year to find out that we have students who have never traveled outside of North Carolina.

The cost of the trip includes charter bus transportation, two nights at the Great Wolf Lodge, admission to the water park in Great Wolf Lodge, zip-line and ropes course at Go Ape, Busch Gardens ticket, registration fees, and all meals.
