The world is changing so fast when it comes to things like technology. The way we learn and the technology of today will drastically evolve by the time that this year's kindergarten students are in the workplace. Why not get our students learning with technology at an early age?
Our students are wonderful!
Between two half-day kindergarten classes, there are 46 five- and six-years old students. Our class sizes will likely grow over the remainder of the year with many students moving into our school boundaries. The school we attend is 53 years old, even some of the parents and grandparents of the students attended the school. But, just because our parents learned with technology in the form of transparency projectors and VHS tapes, doesn't mean that it's the way today's students need to learn and practice, too.
My Project
We are asking for two, iPod touch devices that will be used several times during our school day. First, they will be used by all students during language arts workshop time, where students work independently and with parent volunteers to practice reading and writing skills. Secondly, these iPod touches would be used as a math tool to help students who are struggling with concepts or to challenge high-achieving students. Lastly, these iPod touches would be used during free-choice center time to teach students science concepts and important lessons social studies activities, totally over two-thirds of the time we are in school.
This project is important because our students deserve to learn with the brightest and best technology.
Being a new teacher, Mrs. E, saw a lot of need at our old school for increased use of technology. Learning has taken a turn toward that path and there is no reason why our students shouldn't learn with the technology that will benefit their achievement and learning.
