Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are working on borrowed Chromebooks with limited internet access. Thanks to the generosity of the school, my students have been able to participate in a borrow a Chromebook program. This was the first step in getting them started. Then thanks to the generosity of internet providers in our area they now have access.
So, now we are 3 weeks into distance learning and the new hurdles have emerged.
My students all rely on the breakfast and lunch they get when they are in school. They already grow up in homes where their families work hard at multiple jobs just to survive and now their world has been turned upside down.
My Project
These materials will help support our distance learning by providing materials students need in their homes. I sent a survey to my kids asking "what would make your math learning at home easier?" The top of the list was a whiteboard, marker, and calculator, so that is what I'm looking to give them.
Nothing makes learning math as easy as writing out your work!
These materials will make it easier for my kids to participate in our virtual class meetings and reinforce skills by providing ongoing opportunities to practice.
The calculators I chose are the same ones we used in school every day so they are familiar to the students.
