My Students
I teach music at MES in Michigan City, IN. It is a Title One building with many students living in poverty eager to learn. The rug with music symbols and the treble clef staff offers music experiences with many uses to advance the music knowledge of all the students I teach in grades K-6. The rug is like the big piano in the movie "Big" which gives the students a hands on experience to explore and learning music.
My Project
I selected the rug because I can use it to have my lower level classes (K-2) use it to sit around and my upper level classes (3-6) to use it to learn and review music symbols and notes on the treble clef. My students are more successful if they are doing activities that are hands on instead of pencil and paper. This also gets them moving in the room and not always sitting in their chairs in music class. The rug will increase the enjoyment of music class making it an interactive experience instead of a sedentary experience for the students at Marsh Elementary.
