My students need 1 MacBook Air laptop computer (along with 2 protective cases) in our classroom to be used for math and literacy programs.
This project expired on July 16, 2016.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
As a teacher of young students, a daily struggle I face is meeting the individual needs of all the learners in my classroom. I differentiate instruction and assessments in my classroom as much as possible from small reading and math groups to one-on-one assessments to monitor their progress.
Our class is unique because we will spend first and second grades together.
My students love access to technology in the classroom. Unfortunately, technology in schools is generally not as prominent as it is in the everyday life of many kids outside of school. I plan to use this laptop to build a stronger connection between education and technology. At our school, we have a laptop cart that houses a set of laptops to be checked out by teachers at different times of the day. With eighteen classrooms sharing these laptops, you can imagine that they are not always readily available, especially with the increase of state testing which utilizes the computers.
This laptop will dramatically help reinforce and supplement instruction as well as allow for more individualized instruction in both literacy and mathematics. I can use programs as interventions for struggling students and other programs to challenge high achieving students. In addition to daily reading and math programs, the laptops will be used for math fact practice, adding to their digital portfolio as well as to conduct research for a couple projects throughout the year.
Implementing technology will help my students in their future career endeavors as the Internet, computers and other electronic devices are becoming more prevalent everyday.
The laptop will also help each of my students meet their reading and math goals by individualizing their instruction.
Progress for students can be measured by tests and data but seeing the look of happiness and confidence in the eyes of 6, 7 or 8 year old children when they learn something new is the best reward!
