Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are two groups of courageous, curious, and creative fifth graders whose love of learning despite difficult circumstances in their lives continues to inspire me daily. Most of these kids live in poverty and do not have access to many things that we so often take for granted. The majority of my students are English Language learners and need extra support in learning English while keeping up with the rigorous fifth-grade content. They do not have access to technology or resources at home that can support their journey to learning a new language and succeeding academically.
They come into my classroom each morning looking for love, support, and a chance to grow as learners and that is what keeps me pouring my heart and soul into them each day.
My Project
Tablets will give my students extra support while they are growing as readers. They will be able to practice learning English through educational apps and read books that they don't otherwise have access to. They will have access to information that can be applied towards research projects. They will be able to take ownership of their learning. My readers who might be struggling will be able to practice in an innovative and fun way. The students will stay engaged in strengthening their reading skills by accessing texts that interest them.
Technology will open their eyes to a whole new world of reading that they have not been able to discover yet.
