Learning letters, sounds, numbers and reading are the important skills that my diverse group of kindergarten students are working on. Introducing these mini iPads in a small group setting will allow my students to practice their academic and technology skills in an exciting and engaging way!
My kindergarten students come from diverse backgrounds and a variety of different home life experiences.
I have students with families that are very involved in their learning and others that live in single-parent family homes with little or no support. With all of our different backgrounds, we come together as one class that has a safe learning environment. The iPads will be a wonderful tool to help our range in learning abilities by enriching students who need a challenge and providing extra support to students who need more time to blossom.
We have over 690 students in our school and we are continuing to grow. I have 26 students in my class and providing all 26 young 5 year-olds my full attention is not always possible. These iPads will allow my students to work in small groups to collaborate and meet new Common Core Standards. The iPad Air will help enlarge learning from the iPad onto the Smart Board to engage our whole group lessons.
My Project
Common Core Standards are new and in full effect this school year. Using 3 iPad minis will allow all of my students to practice their essential reading and math skills meeting the Common Core Standards. My small groups are leveled by their academic ability so that I can meet the needs of each small group. Lower achieving students and my English Language Learners will be able to use the iPads to focus on letters and their sounds, number recognition, and basic math facts. My gifted students will be able to practice reading and more challenging math concepts. I envision my small group of students using the mini iPads during our academic, rotating centers. When I use the iPad Air, my students will be sitting on the carpet facing the Smart Board engaged in our whole class lesson. Providing my students with iPads will increase hands-on activities that engage their minds.
This project will help lay the foundational skills my kindergarten students need.
This will give some of my students a chance to use technology for the first time and others to increase their learning through technology. They will use the iPads to practice their language arts and math Common Core skills. Building these foundational skills will help to increase their confidence and love for learning. My students will use what they have learned from this project not only in our kindergarten class but throughout their lives.
