My students need a variety of sensory choices during centers as well as a space to store the items. These items will be used during Math Centers, Literacy Centers, and Imagination Stations.
In a growing military community, our school is surrounded by many homes and businesses. Families may move in and out frequently due to our close proximity to an Air Force base.
My classroom is full of 26 creative, enthusiastic, and energetic 5 and 6-year-olds.
Each day they enter the classroom excited and eager for what the day has in store for them. They come from a variety of backgrounds and all learn in different ways. With this project, I hope to help better meet the needs of all students.
My Project
We spend a large part of our day in centers. Students are expected to work in each center choice for up to 20 minutes at a time. I am wanting to provide more options for independent center choices to increase student engagement. The solution is sensory bins and a light box. I currently have items to create DIY sensory bins and a light box. Unfortunately, I do not have manipulatives for students to use with these bins or a place for sensory storage.
Students learn best the more senses they use.
By providing students with sensory bins, they will be able to learn while staying engaged. Sensory bins and a light box, with the appropriate manipulatives, will not only hold students' attention for the required amount of time, but they will also enrich their learning and enhance their memory by providing a fun, hands on approach. These bins will allow students to read, spell, count, build, compare, explore, and so much more!
