Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a school where students love coming to school each day. They are eager to get off the bus and learn something new. Throughout the day approximately 60 students travel through my classroom to become better readers and writers.
Dedicated, creative, and adventurous are words that describe my learners.
They are hard workers who need a little extra movement for maximum engagement. Movement allows them to get the wiggle out while still working on their reading and writing. During reading, I am also looking for engaging text for my students to read in Time for Kids magazines.
My Project
All of my students are working on becoming better readers and writers. To help their learning I am requesting flexible seating options to reach maximum engagement in the classroom. Wobble cushions and fidget bands will be put on top of regular chairs to allow students to wiggle in their seats. The wobble stool and yoga balls will be an option at a table. Floor cushions and donut cushions will be used at lowered tables. This will give students an option to sit while working. All these seating options will allow my students choice and slight movement to keep them engaged in their learning. The clipboards requested give students the opportunity to move around the classroom while working and still have a hard surface to write on.
Students will choose the best learning space for them each day.
Flexible seating will give my students the power to control their learning each day. They will choose a seat that will allow them to do their very best each and every day through movement. My classroom will be a place they can come and enjoy learning.
Additionally, I am requesting Time for Kids Magazine subscriptions to provide my students with engaging text while they are working with movement. This high quality nonfiction text will give my readers text on their reading level to be excited about!
