Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in an urban school district where my Kindergarten students come to school with no prior school experience. My students are expected to read when they leave my classroom. In order to get them their I need to incorporate a multi-sensory approach to make sure that I meet their academic needs.
My students are in a co-taught classroom.
There is a regular education and a special education teacher. The classroom has 9 students with special needs and 12 regular education students. My school is in an urban school district where all of the students qualify for free meals based on family income.
My students walk through my door on the first day with minimal school experience. In order to make all of my students successful we need to incorporate multi-sensory approaches to make their learning fun and to entice them to learn.
My Project
Letters Alive will help my students learn their letters by using a 3-d approach to learning. The letters literally come alive. The letters are associated with an animal. The animals come alive and teach the students the letter plus an animal that starts with that letter. As the students progress the program moves on to sight words. The sight words are introduced the same way. The program will not only teach letter identification and sight words, it will give my students the needed background knowledge needed so they can be life long learners.
In today's world of technology it is a challenge to keep all of the students engaged during lessons.
The Letters Alive program will integrate technology and traditional learning to make every student in my classroom successful.
