This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Being a child can be tough. Being a child growing up with absentee parents and little money can be excruciating. As a teacher, I have no control over what happens to our children when they leave us. School should be a place of fun and exploration in a safe space!
My students are first graders from inner-city, single-parent homes.
They do not come to school with the common skills you would expect. They have little or no prior knowledge of things you and I would take for granted.
I want my classroom to be exciting and help catch students up on experiences I would provide for my own children.
My Project
My little six and seven year olds are so sick of virtual learning. I have tried all the tricks I can find to keep them engaged, but it is still not enough.
All kids love Legos!
I want them to have small kits of Legos they may take back to their seat.
We are going back face to face next month. I know we will still need to keep socially distanced but we can have fun!
I believe these Lego kits will help encourage them to complete their daily work. I usually have "fun time" at the end of the day for all students who finished their assignments.
