Help me give my students the experience to use something they love, legos, while participating in a learning centered activity using a lego WeDo in a science and math center!
This year I will be faced with a variety of students that have ADHD/ADD/ODD. These students are amazing kids. However, they face many challenges outside of school due to their home life and not being properly medicated. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day.
This is why I would love to give them the best experience at school, including things that they enjoy doing.
They like to move, and they love to read and love lots of positive attention. So I feel this would be positive for their environment at school.
My Project
My goal is to engage my students as much as possible to spark their learning. If I can get my students hyped about things that normally are "boring" then I can get them where I want them to be, focused and engaged on the topic. So, my thought is to get items that they already enjoy and bring them into the classroom.
The new craze is anything to do with robots and coding.
With the lego WeDo, there are so many different topics that this item will cover. My students will love the opportunity to use the lego WeDo in small groups during math and science.
Harry Potter has always been a favorite of mine, and now a lot of the students are into reading Harry Potter as well. This excites me, so I would love to be able to bring some Harry Potter themed items into our classroom. Legos can be incorporated in many ways, my students would be able to use this during their reading and math groups.
I fully believe these items will get my students excited for learning. I would've loved to have these items when I was in school, so I am excited for the opportunity to use these items in my classroom.
