Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is a Pre-K classroom consisting of 4-year-old boys and girls. Many of my students come from economically disadvantaged homes in the inner city of the largest urban school district in the state. The majority come from homes where English is a second language. The students and their parents manage to rise above it and come to school daily ready to learn through play.
A typical day in our classroom is full of laughter and a sense of security.
They look forward to the hands-on activities that help to foster a sense of community.
My Project
The Lego sets we are asking for will help the children develop their creative and collaborative skills and discuss relevant topics such as community-life, building, transportation, and relationships as they construct their community however they imagine.
As they play, they will develop fine motor skills, learn how to express themselves, and explore the world they live in.
They will begin to develop children’s social skills and deepen their understanding of the world around them. They can even work on early math skills by sorting and categorizing the animals.
Children develop fine motor skills while constructing, and the building cards will support and inspire their creativity. The wide variety of roles and responsibilities represented by the community set will give children the opportunity to discover how people live, work, and help each other. It will inspire communication among our English Language Learners and help to build their vocabularies.
