Learning With Legos in the Library

Help me give my students some Lego minifigures and other accessories that they can use in their classroom creations.

My Students

In any given week I see all 475 students at our school as their classes come through the library. We have a very diverse group in backgrounds, interests, and abilities. What we all have in common is a desire to learn and a wish to have fun doing it.

The school library has changed; it is loud, it is active, it is exciting.

My students deserve materials that offer opportunities, invite creativity, and open doors.

"If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow." ~John Dewey.

My Project

Barkstall students love when we use Legos in our engineering challenges during library time. Unfortunately, our current supply of Legos only includes basic bricks. Earlier in the year when we built diving boards to accompany the book Jabari Jumps, we had no Jabaris to jump.

Every time we build, students ask me if they can use minifigures to accessorize their creations!

Every time I have to disappoint them by saying we don't have any. By adding minifigures to our collection students can bring more detail to their engineering projects and I can add more excitement to lessons. Next time they ask, I'd love to be able to answer yes.
