My upcoming 4th graders are an extremely active bunch of diverse learners. Each student has different needs and learning styles. The students enjoy movement around the classroom while learning versus sitting on hard chairs. This upcoming school year, I would like to introduce flexible seating in my classroom to accommodate all needs.
My students have different backgrounds with various learning needs.
This opportunity gives them a chance to have comfy learning, move their bodies, and complete their work in a non-traditional manner.
My Project
Who likes sitting on hard chairs? Most don't. Most people like to move their bodies in order to keep their minds clear and focused on tasks. With flexible seating, students will be able to learn and move at the same time. It has been proven that flexible seating increases focus, attention, and engagement among students.
Students will have non-traditional seating options such as stools, balls, and wiggly chairs based on their individual needs.
Students who struggle to stay seated in a desk chair will be given the opportunity for movement on a movable stool, strengthen their core on a bouncy ball, or during lessons and working times. These options will encourage more movement while increasing focus and collaboration.
