Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing! I teach in a low-income neighborhood where 100 percent of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. Most of my students are EL learners and work very hard to learn two languages. I want to create a safe and caring environment for them to be able to feel safe and loved at school. Most of my students are already coming in behind the national average, but with more opportunities for reading available, they will be able to catch up quickly.
My Project
I've been reading so many great things that teachers are doing in their classroom with the Amazon Echo and I'm excited to share these with my students.
The Echo can help with spelling, defining words, research, timers, calendars and so much more.
Particularly exciting is her ability to translate! A majority of my students are English Language Learners and this would enhance the communication ability to help them to feel more comfortable speaking in their native language. It will also help me to speak with them in their language more often.
My students are also in need of headphones to reduce the classroom noise and provide a more learning friendly environment.
