Parents send us the best that they have. Although many of my students face unique challenges every day before they even come into my classroom, they come in eager to learn. Most of my students live in poverty and their parents hope that their child's education will lead to a better future. Ninety-eight percent of my students come from minority backgrounds, with fifty percent being English Language Learners.
Many kindergartners have not had a preschool experience and I want to do my best to make it a fantastic year for them.
Very few children have access to educational toys and books. It is my job as their teacher to expose my students to as much as I possibly can. I want my students to enjoy coming to school and learning.
My Project
One area my students struggle with the most is learning to exert their energy in a constructive way. I often find students out of their seats and walking around the room. Students also struggle to sit on their bottoms while in their seats. They will find new and unsafe ways to tip their chairs and fall out of them. Sometimes they are so active at their seats, they will cut their clothes with scissors or draw on themselves. They have so much energy they just don't know what to do with it.
Research has shown that installing desk pedals in the classroom significantly increases student's ability to focus in class by providing a way to siphon off their extra energy.
It is my hope that these desk pedals do just that for my kids!
