This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a teacher in New Haven, which is considered a low-income district. The majority of my students come from low-income homes and have to deal with many things that children should not be experiencing at a young age. Many of them come into my classroom to feel safe and know they will receive meals every day.
Although they have many struggles outside the walls of our school, they still come to school motivated and willing to learn!
When it comes to education, the majority of my students struggle to read, write, and solve simple math problems in fifth grade. It breaks my heart to see this happening to them! That is why I do whatever I can to help them each and every day!
My Project
These tools are going to be extremely helpful for my students in 6th grade! This will allow them to opportunity to have fun while learning with their friends. They struggle with multiplication, division, and fractions, therefore these games will help improve these skills.
These learning tools will also help me differentiate for every student in my classroom and promote social emotional skills each day.
The students will be able to work one on one or with groups of friends to solve difficult problems to solve and play the games. All of my students learn differently and this will benefit them tremendously.
I also requested bean bag chairs for flexible seating in my classroom. Children are more engaged in learning if they are able to take charge and choose what is more comfortable for them.
