Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a special education teacher in a diverse elementary school. Our classroom is made up of students that have multiple abilities and disabilities that affect their academic learning. The majority of my students come from low-income families, with limited resources. The ability to make choices in class helps students develop ownership of their learning. They are motivated students with daily learning goals.
Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, but the methods and environments in which they best learn vary.
Our classrooms are full of unique personalities. Creative, funny, dramatic, and mysterious, are words that describe our students. We are a room of authors, mathematicians, scientists, poets, teachers, and learners!
My Project
Although many times we can get supplies home, such as crayons, markers the 'specialized' supplies are coming from educator's pockets. These materials will be used school-wide, starting within the SPED department to continue getting printables, manipulatives, and even face masks to students who are learning virtually.
This project will allow me to create manipulatives packets for my virtual students.
Laminated sheets are a great way to engage students while they are remote. With these supplies, I will be able to create flashcards, templates for number grouping, and dry erase charts.
