My students need a document camera to better allow them to share their thinking with their classmates, collaborate as a community and make learning a shared experience.
My 5th classroom is made up of a diverse group of learners who come together as a community to support each other emotionally and academically each day. Goal setting is a big part of our classroom routine, and my students encourage each other each day as they set and work towards reaching their goals. I never grow tired of moments when one of my students leaps into the air and announces that they finally reached their goal and to experience the reaction of their classmates as they eagerly applaud and congratulate them for doing so.
I strive each day to provide opportunities for my students to not only learn about and explore the world and ideas around them but to learn to be a part of a community.
I feel like it is my responsibility to do so in order to prepare my students for what they may face in the future.
My Project
My classroom is growing! This year's class will be the largest class yet that I will have had the pleasure of working with. Classroom community and shared experiences are a crucial part of the learning process which can become difficult to support and maintain in larger classrooms.
The Lumens DC125 Ladybug Lightweight Document Camera will help my growing classroom to collaborate and share their learning in order to build a supportive classroom community of learners.
This document camera is lightweight, compact, has great clarity, and is described to be intuitive enough for a child to control.
This tool will eliminate the need for students to "pass around and look" or to strain to see what is being exhibited at the front of the room. It can be used in all subjects throughout the day to enrich learning. For example, students can show how they solved a math problem using math manipulatives, something that could only be shared in small groups without a document camera. Students will be able to share their work directly from the original source, whether it be a rough draft for writing or a sketch they created while carrying out a fair test. Any book can now become a "big book" allowing students to highlight specific passages or quotes from a book to share with their peers. Learning can become a shared experience, even in a larger classroom.
