My students need alphabet teaching tubs to help them learn and reinforce their letter & beginning sound knowledge along with a rack to access them easily.
A is for apple. Everyone knows that. Yes, but do they know that Q is for queen, and Y is for yield? If they don't they need to and that is where I come in. My task is to ensure that all the students in my class leave with the secure knowledge of all letters and sounds.
My inner-city Kindergarten students are eager to learn and share.
They come to school excited and curious, but from all different types of backgrounds and starting points. Given support and opportunities they are all capable of getting a strong educational foundation that will benefit them their entire lives. At this point in the school year I am pleased to report that they are making excellent progress. Like many, our district is effected by state budget cuts and declining enrollment, but both my students and I are determined to make the best of what we have to be successful.
My Project
Increased opportunities to see, manipulate, and discuss objects help students learn. Students have come a long way since the beginning of the year. As with most things students are at different levels of mastery with the letters & sounds. Some students are mostly secure with the letters and are ready to use them to create words and read. Others are still working on mastering the letters and need as much practice and exposure as possible to get them caught up. As you can imagine, there is someone on every level in between as well. Students need as many opportunities to practice and manipulate objects to help them no matter what level they are at. Having more items to manipulate and discuss will help students master the letters and sounds. It will also help increase their ever growing vocabulary. The more you know, the more you grow!
With an increased vocabulary, letter & sound knowledge, students will be able to build a truly solid foundation for reading.
This is of the utmost importance for all students. So please help me fulfill my goal of providing these students with a strong academic foundation to build their lives.
