My students are amazing! Many of them have persevered through the challenging situations that life has thrown at them. They are truly my heroes! Our school is a therapeutic day school for special needs students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade. Students typically attend our school due to challenging behaviors in general education buildings. These behaviors are often physically or verbally aggressive, either towards staff members and/or students and themselves.
Most students that come to our school have typically experienced traumatic events in their lives and/or suffer from mental health disabilities.
The goal of our classroom is to determine effective interventions so that students can transition back to their general education settings.
My Project
My students have very unique needs! Because of this, I need to be knowledgeable on a vast number of topics. I recently changed from teaching fourth and fifth grade students to teaching kindergarten and first grade students. Because of this, I need to grow my skill to better teach my younger students how to regulate and appropriately handle their emotion in a way that is safe for them and those around them.
Your donation will provide me with books to learn more effective skills and techniques to teach my student's self-regulation.
The books will be used to study lessons, techniques, and strategies with my para-educators so that we can develop a common language in our classroom to meet my students' emotional needs. Teaching self-regulation to younger students is challenging but vital for the students to reach their full potential.
