Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In our classroom, no two days are ever the same and no two students are the same. There are a lot of the same skills we’re working on, though! My early learning support class is comprised of students with developmental disabilities. All of the students are developing language skills which will help them to be successful in kindergarten and beyond, and many of them are developing skills in English and a home language (Spanish or Amharic) simultaneously. Our school is 99% free and reduced meals in Washington DC.
My Project
Students in my classroom work every day to build their language skills and become more confident in their play. My goal as an educator is to support them in developing those skills so they're ready for kindergarten and beyond.
Using the Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP) and picture cards will allow me to assess, teach and progress monitor effectively so that the students in my self-contained early childhood special education class make growth in their pre-kindergarten years and are ready to be the best kindergarteners they can be.
By targeting where students are and understanding where they're going next, I'll be able to better support them as they learn in my classroom.
