Our school makes its home on one of the oldest Hawaiian Home Land Divisions established through the Native Hawaiian Homes Commission Act of 1921. The native Hawaiian students of the valley hail from a tight-knit community. Though many are from low socioeconomic backgrounds, they remain a proud people, not inclined to ask for hand outs. They are genuine souls who face trials and tribulations on a daily basis.
Our students come from predominately low socio-economic backgrounds with over 80% of our students receiving free or reduced lunch and approximately 20% of the families living below the poverty line.
We also have a population of students who are homeless.
In spite of their struggles, these students come to school with positive attitudes and a smile. They are genuine, caring, and always thankful. Many aspire to attend college or trade school and will work hard to make that happen.
My Project
Access to the disposable masks will provide the vulnerable students with a level of protection they don't always have access to. It will allow them the opportunitiy to come onto campus for support.
Study.com will provide an additional, user-friendly resource for students while hybrid learning.
The platform creates "a better way to learn - one that lets you learn what you want, the way you want." It is engaging and allows students to work at their pace. Providing a level of equity that's especially necessary for the struggling, vulnerable students.
