Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
HMS is located in northern Long Beach and about 25% of the student population is enrolled in the music program.
As a new director to the school this year, I am excited about the opportunities I see for the future growth of the program.
Students are enrolled in one of three areas of music: Strings, Band or Chorus. Students who have progressed far enough in their studies are enrolled in the Advanced Ensembles while students who are just starting out are in the Beginning Ensembles.
All students participate in concerts that are held throughout the year from their Winter Concert in January, to Festival Trips and performances in March to their final Spring Concert at the end of the year, students are given several opportunities to demonstrate what they are learning in the classroom out in our community and on campus.
My Project
My students are very eager to learn how to read music but need these Sound Innovations method books in order to learn how. They will use these books to gain the skills necessary to read music and thus be able to play on their instruments.
These Sound Innovations method books are one of the most current and exciting methods in production today.
This project will give us the tools we need for all the orchestra students at HMS to be able to learn to read music. Without this new set, we do not have enough books for everyone.
