My Project

My students are all Deaf or Hard of hearing and some also have additional disabilities. They are a very unique group of kiddos that rely heavily on visuals in order to learn. My students love using fun cards to help them learn new words and then tie them into their reading and writing.

These materials provide a fun visual support for learning to read which can be a huge challenge for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students.

Students who are Deaf require more repetition as they are not able to access the sounds in order to learn new words. One student has started to show an interest in words through cards like this and is ready for the next set!

The goal with this is that students not only build their vocabulary but also develop their reading skills and then learn how to tie it into their writing so they are able to better participate in activities with their peers.
