My Students
I am a Special Education Resource teacher. The students I work with have varying needs and abilities. My students come from low income families and have very little experience with the world around them. The area my school is in is considered a food desert since they don't have a grocery store in their community. They continue to work hard despite their disabilities and their background. My students have a variety of learning styles and need a lot of assistance and resources to be successful.
My Project
My special needs students are performing below their grade level peers when it comes to their reading skills. They have short attention spans and have a hard time focusing on reading activities that aren't engaging to them. I like to make learning fun for them by providing reading games and activities that are engaging so they can focus and don't even realize that we are learning while we are playing. This is why phonological awareness puzzles would use learning and fun all in one. I also want to do some repetitive activities with them so that they can remember what they are learning. That’s why touch and read CVC word match would be helpful. Most of my students need a lot of repetition before they can master a skill.
