My Students
This is my first year teaching Kindergarten. My class is comprised of 22 awesome students, many of whom come from very low-income households. Each one of my students receives free breakfast and lunch from school, and at times, this could possibly be their only meal of the day. Our school is a Title I school and serves students from Pre-K to 5th grade from many diverse backgrounds. Our goal is to prepare our wonderful students for success in school and give them the skills they need to have a prosperous and rewarding life. My classroom is a place of challenge and discovery where my students are eager to explore and learn.
My Project
When students are learning to read, it is extremely important they have a strong foundation because reading is a skill they will carry with them their entire life. These resources (my students would call them games) will make learning to read inviting, entertaining and fun.
My classroom is student centered, and I read to my students several times a day.
The Word Sliders, Bananagrams, and the Learning Resources for Letters, Letter Sounds and Blends will help my students learn to read on their own and will also give them a strong foundation in reading.
Reading is important because it develops the mind. The mind is a muscle. It needs exercise. Understanding the written word is one way the mind grows in its ability.
