My students need things to practice their sight word recognition in order to build on the foundational concepts in order to learn to read. This project has games, resources and materials to achieve my reading goals.
My students are from Camden, NJ and the families are unable to contribute to our classroom. As you may not know, 100% of my students are on free meals. The area I teach in is extremely under served and a very poor economic status. Most of my students' parents are struggling to make ends meet. Our families are enrolled in the local food pantries and food services. I believe with the proper tools, I can educate them for a better future.
My Project
These materials will assist me in enabling all of my students to learn to read. Creating a sound foundation in reading is the building block of good comprehension. This project contains resources and games to achieve the goals I set for my students. Phonics games, leveled readers and a reading rack with be a great addition to my classroom. My students will use these materials to explore their ability through building, drawing, counting, making letters and sounds, and then words with the hopes that all students will be reading on a kindergarten reading level by the end of the year. These activities will be used during Learning Center times throughout the day as we read and write while learning together.
