In first grade most of the day is spent learning to read. In order to keep reading interesting I need as many interactive and engaging activities as possible. The book bins are to replace broken bins and add more in our classroom library.
My students attend a Title 1 school.
I have a very mixed group of students ranging from low SES status to upper middle class. We are also an inclusion school, so that means I can have a wide range of learning abilities in my room. As with any class it is full of personality and spunk! We also have a long school day from 8:20-4:05, and we do our best to keep the day moving and the kids engaged. In this day and age kids have less opportunity to get out and play, so I do my best to keep the kids in small groups so they can interact and I can help students at different times.
My Project
My students will use the learning centers during small group reading time and in our rotating reading stations in the morning. The book bins will be used daily as students are allowed to change out their books in the morning. I will be able to separate the books out more so that students will be able to find what they are looking for more easily.
This project will help my students because they need as many different activities to keep them engaged in learning.
These little learning stations are wonderful and hit many of the learning areas in reading for first grade. The book bins are simply needed.
