This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are trail blazers that are navigating learning. My class consists of critical thinkers, reflective learners, and creative minds. Students love to ask questions and understand the world around them.
My class is a community that builds on one another and work as a team.
Collaborating is key to their success. Students depend on one another to teach, solve, and create learning. We are the future! Our school is a Title I school, in the inner city of the Piedmont area in North Carolina, so poverty is a prevalent issue in our community. The issue of need is high. Families are having a hard time providing. The question of necessity is now mandatory and the things that would make learning more efficient for my students, aren't making the cut.
Although we face great challenges, the community in my classroom works ten times harder to overcome. Students are putting forth great effort to defeat obstacles that are hindering their learning. Every day we start with a new slate to conquer new heights.
My Project
Reading is "fundamental." Virtual learning has take n many students out of books and away from learning. The goal for second grade is to read fluently, at the right rate/speed, and with expression. We are not there yet. In my class, we are working on the building blocks to accomplishing these skills such as our decoding skills.
Having fun while learning, is still learning.
This project will give my students multiple games to access the building blocks of reading fluency. Having the different types of games will give more practice opportunities and expose students to targeted skills. Games also help with collaboration and communication. The group of students that are still learning letter recognition will be able to play the games that align with their skill needs. I will do this for each group and assign the games as needed. Having materials that are engaging are of high priority.
