My Students

Nestled in a small, southern Kentucky town, sits a small elementary school with a few hundred students. Most students come from low-income households. With many backgrounds, my first-grade students are eager to learn, come to school, and succeed.

My little learners are learning to read and they are full of excitement.

Giving them one more resource to use in the classroom to enhance learning is so important! Giving them a resource to use that will individualize their own learning at a personal level is very unique.

My Project

My first graders are learning to read and our books need updating! These leveled reader materials will make a difference in student learning because they will be interesting and more variety for students to choose what they like. My small groups have 5 students each in them; most are on reading different levels. In small groups, we focus on individual needs and apply learning instruction catering to each student. The skills they learn in first grade will carry on throughout their life long learning process. Having good, rich, foundational reading skills enhance the support students need to be lifetime readers.
