"I can read!" Do you know how powerful those words are to a 5 or 6 year old? My students are learning quickly and becoming great kindergarten readers, but there is so much more they could be getting out of these first experiences with books.
My students are very motivated and eager to learn, as is the school that they attend.
Arizona has had major funding cuts to education, so the teachers have less resources to provide the best education possible to the students. The students love going to the library and getting their hands on anything in print. They are excited about learning to read and are always hungry for more.
My Project
The Leapfrog Tag pen system is a great way for students to work independently and get the most out of their time. With the activities provided in the books, they have fun learning new words, phonics skills, vocabulary, and comprehension while reading. I have used and know the incredible value and influence these products have had on my own children and look forward to being able to watch my kindergarteners grow and develop a love of reading. The Tag pens are perfect for small group instruction and center activities. The kids stay on task so they are utilizing every precious minute of their school day. They are motivational, entertaining, educational, and very high interest for the kids, making the system fun and exciting for the kids. By instilling that love of reading in kindergarten, they will grow to be more fluent readers that want to read!

My own children have learned many of their reading skills and much of their love for reading from Leapfrog programs and tools. I would love to be able to further help my students to grow into fluent readers who read for the joy of it and not because "they have to." I have never been a strong reader and my goal is to make sure that my students don't go through the stress that I went through in school due to this.
