Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Preschool in a low-income district where each year about 75% of my students first language is not English. Verbal Communication can be difficult between them but I’ve seen amazing friendships created through open ended play which is a beautiful thing Preschool classrooms can provide. All have varying ability levels but all also have a desire to share their accomplishments.
I work hard at the start of the year for the students to achieve self- confidence.
All our classroom rules, routines and procedures are set at the start of the year and we do our best to follow through on having them learn and follow them. It helps create our class’s positive atmosphere of happy cooperative play and work where they feel comfortable to explore and learn.
My Project
STEM is a combination of the developmental areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. These Fairy Tale STEM kits will also add Literacy and in doing so encourage the students to communicate and analyze what they discover individually or with teamwork.
Preschoolers love to interact with toys and experiments, manipulate objects and build.
The Fairy Tales problem solving kits will assist me in teaching essential skills for developing early brain connections. Continuous experience of using the kits will improve their learning and communication. My observations of their use of the materials will be a useful tool in my assessments and ability to scaffold my teaching
