Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students learn in a low-income/high poverty school district. My students are faced with multiple challenges both in and out of the classroom. All students in the district receive free breakfast and lunch. Despite the many challenges my students face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
The 3, 4, 5 year old students are learning in an integrated classroom where multi sensory experiences, language development, math concepts, literacy and social emotional development are enriched with tools that teach.
In our classroom, we strive to provide an environment that promotes independence and encourages enthusiasm for exploration. The classroom inspires inquiry and excitement in the learning processes while leading students to discover autonomy and pride in achievement.
My Project
Our Pre K students need to learn in a variety of ways. They will independently, and in small groups, enjoy the listening center learning through books and music. The listening center will support the multi sensory learning that our Pre K students require by offering a variety of ways to access curriculum and understand their world.
Exposure to literature and sharing the experience of joy with peers will strengthen pre reading skills, increase vocabulary and help them to discover a love for reading.
These tools are important at this developmental stage because students are building the foundation for their academic career. The students crave being read to and when the teacher is unavailable to focus on one or two students at the immediate moment, the students can read independently. Capturing a moment and exposing Pre K students to language and literature will support their growth, self esteem and inquiry for future learning!
