Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are determined and kind middle school special education students. They have a great deal of enthusiasm. They especially love music. They are behind their peers academically but they put a lot of effort into everything they do!
Our school is located in a low income neighborhood and it is difficult for us to get the supplies we need to help this unique group of learners.
It is an urban area filled with diverse cultures. The city itself is a low income community surrounded by wealthier communities.
My Project
Help me encourage my students to love reading! With class sets of books that are interesting and age-appropriate, my students will want to read. Books such as The Outsiders and Touching Spirit Bear are not only part of our curriculum, they will keep my students engaged in reading.
Good readers read closely take notes while they read.
Post-it notes and pencils will help my students to take notes while they read of important facts such as characters, settings, their thoughts and feelings, and figurative language.
Getting middle school students interested in reading can be a challenge, especially those who may have difficulty reading. Help me encourage my students to see how much fun reading can be!
