My students need high interest, engaging novels to add to our classroom library to help encourage a love of literature and practice reading strategies.
Around 1000 students attend my school with about 57 percent receiving free or reduced lunch. My students come from diverse economic and cultural backgrounds with varying reading levels.
My students come to class eager to find books that engage them in the reading process.
They are full of energy and ready to push their reading ability forward. Some students need books that are low level but high interest. Others are looking for new genres they haven't explored before. The classroom library helps the students easily get books into their hands and immediately practice strategies we are learning in class.
My Project
Increasing our classroom library will bring more book titles into the classroom for students to explore. Students will have access to more genres and levels of books in order to find books that are just right for them as an individual reader.
These donated items will improve my students' reading skills.
It will also bring joy to students learning how reading can transport us and nurture a lifelong love of reading. Students will use these books to explore new subjects, compare information from different texts, explore text features employed by different authors, and research topics to share with their classmates.
The books I have selected will supplement and update our current classroom library and give my students beautiful new books to inspire them to read and learn more and more every day!
