My goal as a kindergarten teacher is to to build young independent learners, but even more than that I want to build enthusiastic readers. Like Dr. Seuss said, “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”
I teach in Richmond Virginia on the most amazing Kindergarten team ever!
Our classroom is a community. We make sure every voice is heard, whether it is to build our educational knowledge or to share our hearts and souls with our fellow classmates. Most of all we work hard and learn every single minute of every single day. Each student in my class has their own specific personality and they are growing up each day into independent individuals! I love watching them grow together and learn. It is important for me to make sure that our classroom has the resources for this to happen.
My Project
Learning in the 21st century is not easy for children these days. Children are becoming better at using new technology than ever before and new specific technology is the most amazing tool to bring into a classroom of young children. Picture my classroom during reading rotations (a two hour block): There are 4 stations, one with me working on specific reading instruction, one where students are working on being little authors, one where students are learning new words and an independent reading station (where the iPads will be). Having a reading station where students can use interactive tools, read and highlight words, explore new books, be read to, read alone, work with a partner to find specific sight words on their reading level, and a million other activities is without a doubt priceless. These three mini iPads will be a great way to incorporate reading in a fun interactive way that will still engage a young learner.
When you love school and you love reading, anything in life is possible.
