My students need 34 copies of The Book Thief and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas along with their teachers guides. Many of them don't even have books in their homes. We would read these novels in class and discuss.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a Title 1 school where 99% of our students are on free lunch. We are also predominately made up of minorities, most of which are Hispanic.
Finding novels that they would enjoy has been a challenge. Both of these novels also tie in with their Social Studies units.
Many of my students do not even have books in their homes.
Finding novels they would enjoy has been a challenge this year. Since both of these also tie into the Social Studies curriculum this will help them get a better understanding of WWII and the Holocaust as well as increase their love of reading.
Our school serves almost entirely minorities, most of which are Hispanic. They are an active group and it is a challenge to keep them engaged during out 90 minute reading class.
My Project
My students need 34 copies of The Book Thief and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. These novels will be used during our reading time. The students will learn about character analysis and development as we read these stories. It will also give them a better understanding of WWII and the Holocaust, which they study in social studies.
After we read the novels we will view the movies and do a comparison of the novel and the book, which is one of the standards we must cover.
By allowing my students access to these novels, my hope is that they will develop a love of reading that will continue to grow.
It will also allow them to understand how many people have faced adversity and were able to help others in need.
