Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at an elementary school with an extremely diverse and low-income population. I am one of three Pre-K teachers on this campus. I am a strong believer in the power of play in early childhood education, and I want my students to be able to explore with a variety of materials.
My students are 4-5 year olds with very curious and inquisitive minds.
For most of them, Pre-K is their first "school" experience. Our classroom mentality is based on learning through play. Students visit centers for 2 hours a day during which they are independently working, or in a literacy/math small group with myself or my teacher assistant.
My Project
These materials will help to enhance my classroom library by providing a place for students to store puppets on the puppet tree and big books on the metal big book mobile browser. Students will be able to enjoy the books in our classroom library on a comfy beanbag chairs. Storytelling props will help students re-tell and recreate stories that we have read in class. This will help create a love of story-telling and literacy for my students!
The Everyday Songs and Activities collection will help to enhance my classroom management and the flow of our day.
I will have a CD with more songs to sing, and ways to make transitions flow smoother.
