My students need visual recipes, daily life skill lessons, steps to independent living, and more resources that break down everyday tasks into small easy steps.

My Students
The students in our program are diagnosed with moderate to severe disabilities. This includes Autism, Orthopedic Impairment, Intellectual Disability, Visual Impairment, Hard of Hearing, Speech and Language Impairment, Traumatic Brain Injury, Multiple Disabilities, Other Health Impairments, and more. More than 75% of our students come from low socioeconomic status homes. Many of our students speak a primary language other than English. At least half of our students benefit from visual schedules and prompting. None of them will receive a diploma.
My Project
We teach functional skills to our older teen and adult students who, due to their disability, are highly dependent on adults to take care of themselves. This includes independent living, potential vocational skills, and community skills.
The materials in this project will help us teach the students tasks including preparing food, doing laundry, washing dishes, and organizing items.
Providing students with opportunities to make choices and solve problems on their own promotes their self-determination. Increasing students' self-awareness and self-management improves their life potential. Each student in our program has individual, unique learning needs and learning styles. These materials will provide us more resources to be successful in our goal.
