I am a Pre- Kindergarten teacher in an equity plus school. Approximately 80% of our student population receive free/reduce lunch, 20% are English as a Second Language and 18% are exceptional children. My class is made up of children that have been labeled academically at risk. My students have not been exposed to simple math concepts. They come to me not being able to recognize shapes, colors, numbers or the ability to count objects. My goal as their teacher is to provide them with a math curriculum enriched with hands on activities to help them gain the concepts they need to be successful. I was very fortunate this year to have attended two wonderful math workshops. I learned many new ways to teach the math curriculum to my children. They will benefit greatly from hands on activities. These activities will help enhance their understanding of sorting, patterning, graphing, one to one correspondence and shape and number recognition. I have found some wonderful, hands-on resources to help my students reach the high goals I have set for them. The Math Instant Learning Centers, Learn To Count Math Rhymes, Math Manipulative Sorting Center, Counting Keys and Literature-Based Math Packets are materials that will greatly benefit my children. These math materials will be used by the children while working in centers as well as in small group instruction. Hands-on learning is how young children learn best. Any help that you can provide will be very much appreciated. Thank you for your consideration.
