My students need coins to practice how to count and to learn the value of money and a Yacker Tracker to be able to monitor their noise level on their own.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Working in the inner city of Washington DC my students don't understand the value of money. I am trying to teach my students the value of money by creating a classroom store that students can buy things from. Students will be able to earn money and learn how to use it in everyday situations.
My students live and attend school in the urban area of Washington DC.
They are sweet, kind, energetic, eager first graders. My students love being able to touch things and see visual things to be a positive indicator for them. The school is close to 100% African American and attend a public charter school.
My Project
Students will be handling money for every positive action in the classroom. They will have the option to save their money or spend it. They will be able to count and know the differences in coins. My students will also be able to know the equivalent coins and values.
My students will be able to self monitor their noise and take responsibility for themselves by learning self control.
Students will learn the value of money and self control.
Students will be aware that money isn't just a picture but that each coin is a specific amount of money and that the money adds up and can be used to buy things or to save.
Students will also learn that their volume should be indoor voices and students will be able to self monitor.
