This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school serves students in poverty. As a Title I school, we are used to going without. Yet our students still have the same needs as others, if not greater needs. My students come from families that cannot provide any of the supplies needed for our school, so we often make due with what we have. This means that we are unable to purchase the things that would better assist my students who have severe learning needs. Despite this, we have passionate learners and teachers who are dedicated to providing the best education possible to our students.
My Project
Some of the most exciting and up-and-coming career path in our world today is computer based. Coding is a skill that is extremely valuable to students both right now and in the future. Right now they can practice critical thinking skills, creativity, and problem solving.
Botley would be an engaging and enjoyable introduction to the world of coding for my students.
With Botley, students would be able to learn the basics of coding before they ever attempt it on a computer. Botley is an easily programmed robot that comes with a kit of tasks the robot can try to performs after a student codes it. These kits would be so welcome in my class!!
