My students need headphones to listen to videos, interactive tutorials and audio instructions to further their learning and understanding of the content.
Isn't it difficult to listen to the video on your computer when there are 30 other videos playing within the same classroom?
Our school is a brand new small high school opening in September 2013.
We are a school that focuses on science-based explorations and trips where students are constantly encouraged to ask "Big Questions" about the environment around them. Our school also works with the online program called iLearn NYC, a program that allows students to work at their own pace using technology in the classroom and at home. We believe that supporting the social and emotional learning of our diverse set of students is just as important as supporting them academically. Our advisory program will create a second "home" for those in need of the extra social and emotional support. Our welcoming environment and administrative support will allow students to flourish and ask "big questions" that challenge them.
The headphones will help my students within the classroom by:
1) Encouraging students to watch videos that are tailored to improve certain mathematical skills that they struggle with (differentiated review)
2) Presenting them with a resource to use along side the laptop to review classwork or practice tasks independently during lunch or after school.
3) Motivating students to further their understanding of the world around them by watching TED videos during advisory and creating presentations on the topic they taught themselves.
Beginner ELL students will definitely benefit from this donation because they will have a chance to work with the iPads in the classroom to translate any words they are unaware and/or unsure of. The headphones will allow them to listen to the words being pronounced which allows them to grow as learners in math and English.
This donation will give my students the chance to take charge of the content they struggle with by watching videos either in class, during lunch or after school to build the skills necessary to be successful.
The headphones will allow the students to interact with the technology and content in a way that is not disruptive to others and their learning within the classroom.
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
