How can a child learn math and reading skills when all they can focus on is their need to have sensory stimulation? Until the sensory need is met the child will be unsuccessful in focusing and paying attention to the classroom instruction.
I teach resource math and reading to 15 students ranging in age from 5 to 10 years old.
Most of these students have at least one sensory need that needs to be filled before they can begin to learn.
With all of the cuts in education funding in the state of Mississippi, the school district is having to cut teaching positions and valuable educational programs for students. The district does not have any funding to purchase the sensory items that many of my students need to be successful in the classroom.
My Project
Many students need a sensory break throughout the day in order to be able to stay on task and learn during classroom instruction. When a student's sensory need is not met they are unable to learn.
Due to education funding cuts, many schools are unable to provide a sensory room or sensory materials for students that need this type of break.
I teach resource math and reading to 15 students ranging in age from 5 to 10. It is important for me to have sensory materials available for them to use while they are in my classroom because it would enable my students to meet their sensory need while still learning.
