My students need many art supplies such as paints, brushes, markers, chalk, construction paper and more in order to extend the lesson beyond the text book. These materials would greatly enhance the lesson being taught.
As with many teachers, I teach a wide array of students, learning needs, learning styles, and family backgrounds. Art is an equalizer for all learners. I am able to give an art project to a student who is learning english and a student who is gifted, and both can show understanding.
I teach 100 5th grade students reading.
They attend a public school in California. I teach students who come from many backgrounds, so there are several languages spoken in my classroom. They are passionate learners and always looking for ways to learn beyond the text book.
My Project
These materials will greatly affect the way in which I am able to reach the needs of all students. Due to budget issues, many "extra" materials are the first to be eliminated. The materials I am asking for are water colors, brushes, colored pencils, yarn, and paper. These materials will change the dynamic of the learning and engage all students. Art, however, is a way to enrich all students' lives, get them involved and engaged in the lesson, and give them something material to hold on and bring home and reinforce the lesson.
This request will affect a large number of students at one time.
It will enhance learning and make the standards, that can be daunting, approachable and memorable. I would sincerely appreciate your support and consideration in making these supplies a reality for my instruction.
