My special education students are a unique blend of young people who are creative and brilliant but struggle with learning at grade-level and behavioral challenges. I want my young scholars to work hard every day and try their best, and I want to provide them with resources to make it easier for them to accomplish that.
My students have learning disabilities that do not allow them to change classes throughout the day.
Because of this, they have all of their classes in one classroom all day long. Having technology in the classroom that allows them to explore different routes of learning will help become better learners.
My Project
The students I teach these days have been raised with technology at their fingertips. The problem is they don't have that same technology to use in the classroom. My students have a range of disabilities from Other Health Impaired, Specific Learning Disability, Cognitive Disability and Emotional Disturbance. The Chromebooks would be a great addition to the classroom to help students explore information with the use of high tech learning materials. Students will get opportunities to work on the Chromebooks and explore apps, websites and more to help promote English Language Arts, Science, Social Studies and Math skills. My class will have an infinite amount of learning materials instantly and always available at their fingertips. This allows for endless amounts of opportunities for students to explore, create and discover the world around them. Our school is in a large urban school district with 100% of our students at the poverty level receiving free breakfast and lunch daily.
My students will use this Chromebook as a learning tool.
They will be able to read books online, conduct research, do presentations, view electronic resources and complete assignments digitally. The use of Chromebooks in the classroom will also help them develop strong technological skills that are needed in today's world. Many of my students do not have access to these resources at home so this will also provide an equal opportunity for all my students to succeed.
The benefits of this technology would go on farther than just inside these four walls!
